The company’s current multifamily portfolio consists of 129 properties totaling 32,334 apartment homes (including 878,133 square feet of office and retail space) located in 13 states and more than 20 major U.S. markets. In addition, GID has 15 multifamily properties under active development or in lease up totaling 4,647 apartment homes located in 9 states.

GREG BATES
Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Executive Vice President, Portfolio and Asset Management
Greg Bates is Chief Operating Officer of GID and serves on the Executive Committee and on the Investment Committee of GID. As COO, Mr. Bates is responsible for managing the Portfolio and Asset Management Group; sourcing new equity capital relationships and managing the ongoing relationship with GID’s existing institutional equity partners; providing direct management oversight of GID’s hedge fund businesses; and investigating and recommending new business line investments for GID.
Previously, Mr. Bates worked at privately-owned Building and Land Technology (“BLT”) in Stamford, CT where he built and led BLT’s third-party real estate private equity platform. Prior to BLT, Mr. Bates was an executive at GE Real Estate and served the company in various capacities over a 17-year career. While there, he was the General Manager of the Americas for GE Real Estate’s Investment Management platform and the Managing Director of GE Real Estate’s principal investing business. Prior to those responsibilities, Mr. Bates served as Managing Director of the Multifamily sector, overseeing GE Real Estate’s $5 billion portfolio of joint venture investments.
Mr. Bates received a BA degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
THAD PALMER
Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President, Acquisitions
Thad Palmer is the Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of Real Estate Acquisitions for GID and a member of the Executive Committee. During the course of his career, he has been involved in the acquisition and disposition of approximately 50,000 apartment units valued at over $9.5 billion, including an entity level investment in Criterion Property Company, a multifamily development company formed in 2004, the 2010 consolidation of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (“CalPERS”) core multifamily portfolio of 14,674 units with GID and the formation of a joint venture development platform that has closed 26 transactions with total development costs of over $2 billion. From 1990 until 1998, he worked as an acquisition officer of Berkshire Realty Company, Inc. and was responsible for both the acquisition and disposition of multifamily assets within the Southeast and Southwest regions. Mr. Palmer joined GID in 1998 and served as an Acquisitions Vice President responsible for multifamily investments in the Midwest and Southwest regions until 2003. He is currently responsible for overseeing all multifamily acquisitions made nationwide on behalf of GID’s three multifamily co-investment funds and GID’s joint venture development equity placement program. Mr. Palmer graduated from the University of Rochester in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council.
